About WVFD
Thank you for visiting our website and your recent interest in becoming a member of the Woodville Volunteer Fire Department.
Firefighting is an international brotherhood of people both paid and volunteers of all ages who have dedicated their lives to helping to prevent loss of life and theprotection of property sometimes at great risk to themselves. Worldwide firefighters place themselves in harm’s way rushing to the aid of total strangers every single day.
The Woodville Volunteer Fire Department was established as a non-profit on January 5, 1989. The first bylaws and articles of incorporation were written and put on file in May of 1989. The original 9 members were Ronald Collins (President), William Harris (VP), Tundra McClendon (Secretary), Paula Jenkins (Treasurer), Harold Lewis, Charles Lipford, Robert Ponder, JB Jenkins, and Robert Lewis. Through a mutual aid agreement with the City of Tallahassee, the Woodville Volunteer Fire Department shares Station 13 located at 1555 Oak Ridge Rd E, Tallahassee, FL 32305 with the paid members of the Tallahassee Fire Department who are contracted by Leon County to provide primary fire protection services in the unincorporated portions of Leon County.
Our department is made up of a group of very dedicated volunteers with varying education and skill levels with full time careers who respond to the same variety of calls the paid firefighters respond to the Woodville area and Southern Leon County. We have computer tech support, general contractors, correctional officers, folks in retail sales, insurance reps, and stay at home moms who donate their time away from their families to help your family when they need help the most.
We have four pieces of firefighting apparatus which are assigned to volunteers who
respond from their homes to provide the necessary assistance. We do not respond
alone; we have a mutual aid agreement with the Tallahassee Fire Department and
always respond mutual aid with them.
Our membership has different levels of participation consisting of administrative
members managing the financial portion of the department. Our responding
members handle fire suppression, medical emergencies, public fire prevention
education, and general fire department tasks. All responders are certified
firefighters or emergency medical responders with all training costs covered by the
department.
We are the only volunteer fire department in Leon County with an auxiliary unit.
This unit is led by Board President Dora Duncan. These valuable members provide
additional manpower during large scale public and fund-raising events. This unit
can also be activated for large scale incidents where additional manpower is
needed.
Our auxiliary members assist in times of natural or manmade disasters when
responding members need additional help with traffic control, clearing roadways of
fallen trees, and other tasks that do not require them to enter the “Hot Zone” of a
particular incident.
If this international brotherhood of Dragon Slayers sounds like a family you would
like to become a valuable part of, please read the Standard Operating Procedures
completely and follow the instructions in the SOPs.
